In 1945 I was a sick berth Petty Officer on the hospital shop HMHS Oxfordshire. After VJ Day we arrived in Hong Kong to take on board British servicemen who had been POWs with the Japanese. The ship finally left Hong Kong on 29th October 1945 and began the long journey back to England, eventually arriving in time for Christmas.
