My mum was in born in Rhyl in 1921. The outbreak of the war was declared. From then on she never liked Rhyl because of the noise form the aircraft. She was evacuated to Blackpool with a family who had 2 young boys and a girl. When the blitz came ot Manchester she had to walk form Higher Ardwick to a relation's in a small place called Clifton through thick smog and fog, because there was no public transport. Devestation, destruction and pillaging was going on in the centre of town. The infirmary was in a dank state and there were people who were breathless and their clothes were covered in a layer of grime and dust. She said that the services were called out but there wasn't enough equipment to deal with everything.
There were lots of rooftops and buildings scattered and on fire. There was a smell of smoke everywhere.
She had a reserved occupation as she was a teacher at the time. She didn't want there to be a third world war because of what she suffered in World War 2.
