Aged 9 , we had a Morrison shelter that we slept in night, because of the doodlebugs. The windows were felted and hooked up in the day for light. (In retrospect the shelter wasn'nt of much use because it was suspended 4 feet above the ground). The cat forced the flap open during the night and it was very cold, so my mother got up to close it. I was suddenly woken by her screaming , she had trodden on a dead rat.
