Every year as a child we would come to the Isle of Man for a holiday away from the hussle and bussle of Longsight, Manchester.
In 1945 we came to stay on a farm in Glen Maye and as my father was keen on rowing, we went regularly to Peel beach for him to hire a boat to row us out.
My mother was always concerned that he would row too far out to sea and was pleading with him to make his way inland. He thought everything was fine when my mother realised that lots of people on the beach were frantically waving their arms at him to come back in. So, my father turned back towards the shore and as we got closer to the shore he realised they were shouting "the War's Over"!
In 1991 my husband and I decided to move to the Island. We were on the breakwater at Peel and I was looking through the binoculars across the bay and spotted some newly built bungalows, so we drove over to find them, bought one and have lived looking over Peel bay ever since.
