I was a nurse on leave from my hospital - Alloa and I had gone home to Port Glasgow to stay with my family. I had an auntie who was a head waitress at a Service Officers Club in Greenock - and she asked me to help her out. while there I was asked to help a young naval officer whose button had come off his naval jacket. He asked me to sew his button back on as he could not return to rejoin his ship improperly dressed.

I sewed the button on and later found out that his ship was the HMS Hood. I do not know if he was one of the 4 survivors after the ship went down but I saw the pictures in the papers and I dont recall seeing his face.
