My dad was in the navy anyway and we moved to Portsmouth from London. When the war came, buzz bombs were coming over all the timeand we really did end up living in the air raid shelter,no gas ,electricity. We had to boil all of our water.
our Aunt Glad lived in Tunstall, dad arranged for us to go and live with her-there were 6 of us and Mum came too.We didn't go to school because no one did in portsmouth and the school board man came after us in Stoke. Mum got a council house in Little Chell. After the war Dad got sent to Newcastle to train sailors, so it worked out well,After he left the navy he went to work at Michelin,Whitfield colliery and even after he retired he was a lollipop man.
