On the evening of VE day, we got up out of bed and went down to the local fire station. The celebrations went on until the early hours of the morning. I was 16 and was taking exams. I had a French oral the next morning at 9pm! My family used to go to Liverpool to reinforce the air rade shelters in the area. We went one day after the blitz and a policeman told us to go and have a look at something. The house was in complete ruins but there a picture on the wall that was perfectly in place. It was uncanny.
