Evelyn joined the W.R.A.F., which means Women's Royal Air Force, in 1940.

At first Evelyn went to Morecambe do her squarebashing and then she was posted to Walney Aerodrome. Evelyn was a wireless operator plotter. Evelyn's number was 208951.

Evelyn remembered that one time a plane coming home tried to get over the slagbank but unfortunately it crashed and there were no survivors.

After the war Evelyn got married and had three boys.
