As an apprentice in my mid teens with a stell construction firm, I was in a "reserved occupation". I was "called up" to help man a battery of anti-aircraft, rocket-projectors. On might a week, under the eye of the Royal Artillery we would be "solders" on the nearby TA Centre from dusk to dawn. There were four batteries, each of 64 projectors firing rockets each around the town augumenting the efforts of the heavy regular "AA" gun sites. During these nights we were subject to normal rules and regulations of the army. These duties in addition to "firewatching" duties of the local bank again one night per week - sleeping under the bank counter.
