We did lots of things at school, at Christmas all we had were lanterns with sticky paper. We did manage to get a real Christmas tree. We put school plays on and played lots of games, we had bread and water picnics. But there were no dances or anything like that, occasionally the Drill Ball would put a dance on but we were too young.
Our bathing costumes were made of wool which sagged to our knees when they got wet, they were awful. We went to the swimming baths with school.
We used to make up our own games, Tin-A-Lurkie was one.
