July 5th 1942 Sunday
Had an early lunch, delicious peas, potatoes out of the garden. I made a redcurrant tart and custard. Goodey! Goodey! Sam and Alf very kindly washed up for me, then I rushed off to Stanford. Auntie Em has broken her arm, she doesn't look too good, and Uncle has a snorter of a cold. They were pleased to see me, I left there about 6.30 pm. Had arranged to ring my husband 9 pm. Oh! it was marvelous to hear his voice again, we had both been feeling so depressed, but felt very much more cheerful after our conversation. Do hope he will get his leave soon, as he may be going soon.

July 31st 1942 Friday
Edwin came home on 7 days leave. We spent the weekend at "The Gables" and went up North Bank Holiday Monday. Harry was home on 14 days embark leave, so we all went to "Old Handlebars" and had the 'Family Portrait' taken, am longing to see them.

September 5th 1942 Saturday
Edwin home on 48 hrs, telephoned me on his arrival 10.30 am, is meeting me at Barking, has booked seats for "Full Swing" at the Palace with Jack Hulbert & Cicely Courtridge as stars. Edwin's birthday yesterday.

September 8th 1942 Tuesday
Had the most wonderful weekend ever, the weather was perfect, we persuaded Mother to go for a lovely walk with us yesterday afternoon - her leg very bad, had the Dr in the morning. Went right up to Chafford's Stores for a lovely cup of tea. Just arrived home in time for Edwin to catch his train. Oh how I miss him especially after such a Super weekend. It was marvelous for me to have the day off too. Guess we may have to "S.L.S." I went with Rene to see "Gone with the Wind" in the evening. Marvelous film.

1943 January 22nd Friday
Edwin came home on 10 days leave, we had a wonderful time and a "Super Celebration" for our first Wedding Anniversary. We went up North for a few days and Mum came back with us, so we all went to the Empire and saw Ronald Colman & Greer Carson In "Random Harvest" That was on the Wednesday, then Thursday we went to the Palladium to see Tommy Trinder in "Best Bib & Tucker" - very good. Mum -stayed at Auntie Gert's but came over to us on the Friday for the "Do". Mr & Mrs McLean very kindly gave us a chicken so both she & Mr McC, Mother and Dad, Mum, Edwin & I had a lovely lunch. Edwin gave me 100%!! He went back on the 31st Sunday so we made whoopee on the Saturday night. It doesn't seem possible we were wed a
year ago! Happy Thought!!
February 5th 1943 Friday
My husband's wedding anniversary present to me is a Super Gold Watch, "Our" friend M.B worked the oracle. Its simply marvelous. I don't know what to buy him although he has shown a marked preference for a World Globe!! What do you know about that?!!!
Ha! Ha!

February 9th 1943 Tuesday
Siren sounded 8.30 am - All Clear 8.50 am. Mother in bed with a very bad cold. If she is not better by tonight I must get the Dr to come and see her.

February 10th 1943 Wednesday
S.S. 4.50 pm All Clear 5.10 pm. Mother in bed with a very bad cold. Rene and I hope to go to the pictures tonight to see Abbott & Costello in "Rookies". Pouring with rain all the afternoon.

March 10th 1943 Wednesday
Mother got up for a day but collapsed and the Doc has been visiting her nearly every day, she has strained the heart due to the cough. I go to work in the mornings and have each afternoon off. She is very very ill but with patience I sincerely hope we shall pull her round. Its so difficult to get anything to tempt her with these days, she is longing for an orange!! Auntie Nan is very ill; she has fallen down the stairs and has a broken collar bone. Dr says he's unable to do any more.

March 15th 1943 Monday
Mother still very ill in bed. The Dr was pleased with her yesterday Edwin has just telephoned to know if I can go down for the weekend. Have bought a smashing coat at Moultons; real camel cloth. 拢10.17.6 and 18 coupons.

March 22nd Monday
Have just returned from a marvelous weekend with my husband. I caught the 2.10 pm from Victoria Friday and arrived in Canterbury 4 pm. We stayed at The Queen's Head Hotel. Naturally I wore the new coat and I think? I passed with Honours!! I felt I needed a change and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Its a lovely old town. We celebrated on Sat 20th as it was two years ago since we became engaged! I am expecting Edwin home on 10 days at the end of April - Roll on ! oooh!

March 26th 1943 Friday
Mother just about the same. My boss did us a good turn and managed to get some fish for Mother. She enjoyed it very much. The Dr will be coming again on Sunday, I expect. Auntie Nan going on fine: expects to be home soon. Isn't it amazing at her age? I leave at 4 pm every day now.
