I was evacuated from London to Cinderford and billeted in a house with oil lamps. There were night lights to go up to bed, and an earth closet.

I had been living in Wembley. Elsie Lancaster in Cinderford was a family friend.

This story was submitted by The British Schools Museum, Hitchin on behalf of Mr Craft. The story was recorded at a Reminiscence Day 12th November 2005. Mr Craft had made a tremendous effort to attend the event, in his wheelchair. He wanted to record what little he could now recall.
