Y Force was a Special Operations Unit in the RAF. It used a means of detecting the presence of aircraft by sending out frequencies which were sent back when they encountered a solid object. It was my job to install the equipment on Blenheim aircraft (dual engine aircraft with an operator, pilot, observor, second operator). We put IFF transmitters (Identification Friend or Foe)on our own aircraft.Initially I was based in Wales (St. Athan, Glamorgan). After this I went to CLTS at Elstree for two years. I was an instructor of 40 pupils every month (they had to have flying experience to get on this course). Later on I went to Bournemouth (3PRC Personnel Reception Centre, an air training scheme) deciding to take part in the invasion (as an instructor of mostly Canadian Air Crew). On occasion we trained Turkish Air Crew. I stayed at Heathlands Hotel on the seafront at Bournemouth for two years.
