I lived in Harsthill. Father was in the TAs and when he came home he brought me a tin of lead soldiers and my sister a doll. Then he went on the North Africa and Italy campaigns and was awy for over three years.
Mother worked in munitions in Stoke. I stayed with my grandparents in Trentham. It was near the army barracks so we had dinner with soldiers before the Americans came. There were also convoys of refugees. One soldier called Ramsbottom promised to take me to London.
I remember some bombing around Trentham and Tittensor, the land in between. I also remember making coffee in the Trentham Village Hall on the A34.
