My great grandad and grandmother were visiting my grandparents in Sidcup Kent. My great grandparents had a bungalow in Chislehurst which is about 2-3 miles away.During their visit they heard the distinctive noise of a doodlebug V1 rocket overhead and the sound of an explosion as the doodlebug exploded on impact. My great grandfather who was the world's worst pessimist kept saying 'That's our place, that Hitler's got it in for me' He was told not to be so silly, anyway my greats went off back home on the bus. An hour later they returned in their car which had no roof and as their bungalow had been hit by the doodlebug the only item left was a vase the roof of the car had been blown off in the explosion. My mother still has the vase and it is a treasured heirloom in our family. My great grandfather was right Hitler did have it in for him.
