Bill Harrison R.E.M.E. 1941 served in Italy, Greece and the Middle East

William (Bill) always wanted to be a lorry driver and when he volunteered to join the army, he was transferred to the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers.

R.E.M.E. personnel had to keep the army vehicles on the move and he said it was quite an adrenalin rush to be working on a vehicle with the enemy on the horizon, knowing the vehicle had to be repaired and moved on, or destroyed so the enemy couldn't use it.
Despite the seriousness of the war, he enjoyed the experience and the camaraderie.
