I was born in August 1944, I contracted T.B when I was 3 ½ in 1947. I went to Jenny Lind Hospital in Norwich and my parents were not allowed to see me, as they thought it would be disruptive to me as a child. I had to lie on my back with a mirror above me so that I could see my food or my toys. I was there 2 ½ years — I went to Yarmouth to convalesce and the hospital was full of other children like myself — Recovering from T.B . We went to the circus on stretchers and were taken to the beach on stretchers, and the performers all came to see us. We were force—fed liver, and if we did not go to the toilet every day we were given enemas. I had to wear a back support until I was 18. I met my brothers and sisters when I was 7.
The doctors who performed the operation were Dr Britain and Dr King.
