I remember sirens and blackouts and bombs. I was born and bred at Manchester and lived at Failsworth .
I worked at Farrantis on ammunitions, I was on a driller in metal, we made the things that you bombed with. We were given a drawing to work from. We used to work in shifts. I didn鈥檛 deal with any powder like other. We had men overseeing us. We had to wear a brown uniform.
The outside of the factory was painted like a row of houses, lots of things were camouflaged.
I met my husband there, he worked in the same department as me only he made parts for submarines, he was a fitter. His work was very precise, small tiny measurements. He used to have to walk round the department chasing orders up. He wore a blue coat.
Farrantis had a club and we went there or into Manchester to the shows, singing, dancing. He was a musician, he played clarinet.
