One day we went on a bus ride to Upwey Wishing Well where they served afternoon teas. This was a real treat and must have cost quite a bit.
At the wishing well people drank some of the water and then threw some over their shoulder and wished.
I thought this was a bit silly, but did it any way, although I didn't wish.
I prayed as a 5 year old child that my dad would come home safely. He did at the end of the war when I was 7 and a half.
