My memories are very few of the WW2. I can repeat the memories my brother had.
He told me he remembered my father dressed in his soldier's uniform carrying his kitbag, over his shoulder with his tin hat attached and rifle over the other one when he came home on leave.
The only vivid memory I can recall was when my father, who was in The Royal Artillery Regiment was stationed at Brean Down outside Weston Super Mare. He was one of many who manned the heavy ack -ack guns,at FLat and Steep Holmes laying off Barry. While stationed at Brean Down, my father found a homely lady living in Brean Sands. Who let us stay at her house for a week with my father spending his leave with us. Bringing with him his ration of choclate for a friendly mouse to nibble at. Needless to say my father came home on compassionate leave nine months later when my mother suprised my brother and I with a baby brother.
To this day I still have my father "Dog Tags
and Soldier's Service Pay Book"
I remembered the evacuees that came to live with their relations in our street who i was very friendly with. My brother jogged my memory about the evacuees that came to live in our street from Jersey, one of the the daughters name was Hazel La-Marco we became friends and missed them when they return home. Another family from London also came to stay with relatives living at the end of the street who I becme friendly with.
My brother jogged my memory about my mother's brothers. The oldest was in the R.A.F stationed at Barry manning the Barrage Balloons. One of them was in the Parachute Regiment who was parachuted into Arhem he was one of the lucky ones to come home. One of the youngest brother's who from Grammer into the R.A.F as an apprentice, during the war became a Flight Lieutenant on one mission came home with one his trouser,s leg badly burned.
