My brother was at Dunstable Grammar School during the war. One August in1940 during the School holidays he went to help out on local farm in Lilley, they needed help as the farm workers had been called up.
At 15yrs old they decided that my brother was too small to work and so was given the job of plane spotting.
A German plane came over they all looked up it was very low, to their amazement the pilot looked right at them and smiled and waved.
Then he flew over Lilley dropped a bomb on Vauxhall - machine gunned around - then came back over the fields at Lilley waving and laughing to them.
