I was born in 1938 so I don't remember much only small things.
We were taken to Lapworth to live in a fruit loft above a garage to escape Birmingham (my father was shell shocked in WW1).
I had my tonsils out during the war at the Solihull Hospital. I can still smell the rubber mask.
We came back to Birmingham before the end of the war. We shared an air raid shelter with next door.
I remember the home guard marching past. The home guard club is still called "Hall Green HG CLub".
I wondered what all the fuss was about when I had my first banana afater the war.
