Richard Frank Cutler Born abt 1922 died 1923 Treasured copy of pic, have no idea when taken or where.
My interest in WW2 started when I found out that my fathers brother had died. I started researching my family history about 4 years ago now. While researching them I found the CWGC. I was searching for Frank Cutler. Got very frustrated because I could not find him. Then I came across a Richard Frank Cutler and bingo I had found him. I sat and cried as I looked at this image on the screen. The family could not remember how old he was when he died, they thought he was 21 and had forgotten a lot of things. So I copied loads off and sent them to the family. I spoke to my Auntie who told me that Uncle Frank had left home at just 15 years old. He had lied about his age and then gone off to Africa to serve in the Army. It was a hard life at home for him. They lived in a small 2 up 2 down. There was 9 children and my grandparents living in it. They were very poor. So maybe my uncle thought it would be better than being at home. He served in Africa I believe for about 6 years. He was supposed to be coming home when he was sent to Sciliy. I understand that he was engaged to an Italian girl. He was killed on Aug 4th 1943 aged just 23. 27 years before I was born. Sadly I never got to know him. Have always hoped I would be able to contact someone who knew him or was with him in the War. As the years go by I know there is probably no chance of this happening now. I have 3 copied pictures of Uncle Frank that I treasure. They have pride of place in my lounge, so I can look at my hero every day.
