During April my mum had been ill, and as she recovered the doctor suggested a short stay in the country as being helpful. Dad contacted a guest house on the shores of Loch Lommond and ordered a taxi to take us, mum, dad and I to Ardern on 7th May.
When we arrived there and settled in, we heard that Mr Churchill was to speak to the Nation next day at 3pm. Everyone expected to hear that the war was ending, as the news had been good of late. There was talk of how this could/would be celebrated.
Lillias, daughter of the house and ages with me heard from her friends in the young farmers, that a dance was being arranged for the 8th, would I like to go? Of course I would! So next evening we made our way to the neighbouring farm where a barn had been cleared and food and music was arranged. Exact details escape me, but I do remember lots of fun and laughter. People arrived and everyone was happy. One of the dances was called 鈥渢he Lemon Victory Waltz鈥. And all joined in.
We had a lovely holiday in beautiful surroundings and yes the doctor was right! It did mum the power of good and she was soon her old self again.
Oh and does anyone remember 鈥渢he Bubble Cut鈥 hairdo! I had one before we went on holiday and thought it was the bees knees!
