My Mum Jean was a leutenant studying to be a Captain at the Salvation Army College in London during World War Two. She was in her late teens to age 20. I remember she told me how she took her turn with other members of the Sally Army, walking the streets late at night offering soup to the homeless. One particular time she took an interest in a homeless mother with a babe in arms; unfortunately the girl refused help.
She told me of the times the doodlebugs came over and when the engines stopped you thought it could be the end!
Such a loving caring lady - now 79 she has dimentia in a nursing home, and is charged for the privilege!
