26th April 1942 at approx 2330hrs my mother sue was walking home alongside the river Avon in ferry lane after finnishing a shift as a bus conductor as the bombs started to fall she ran along the road towards her home in widcombe when a large bomb hit the RC Church opposite the blast threw mum over a low wall,as this happened she distincly remembers the body of the vicar flying through the air and landing (minus head) approx 10ft from where she was shelering ,mum got up and ran ! She got home ok and then went in the middle of the raid with my Aunt to the Red Cross Clearing Station and helped with the wounded as she was a trained first aider Mum still maintained that there was still a large unexploded bomb in the river Sue passed away in 2002
