I am currently writing a book entitled "Circuits and Bumps at RAF High Ercall" which includes sections relating to 68 Night Fighter Squadron who included Czech Squadrons including members who fought defending Liverpool during The Liverpool Blitz, namely a pilot called "Miro" Mansfeld who also fought in the Battle of France and The Battle of Britain. I have been inspired to finish my book by visiting "The Spirit of the Liverpool Blitz" Exhibition currently running at The Albert Docks in Liverpool. These very brave pilots from RAF High Ercall defended as best they could the Liverpool and Birmingham areas from a little known village in Shropshire called RAF High Ercall.I would love to hear from anyone who had contact with anyone who served at RAF High Ercall which is the village I grew up in playing as a child in the Air-Raid shelters on Crabtree Lane, Osbaston. I have gathered information from people from across the globe who have either served there or who have had contact with those who fought and died here- no small feat when you consider just how small a village we live in. In a small way, my book will be a testament to the memory of those men and women whose lives through a fluke of fate being pushed together and shared in this tiny speck of England for a time they called home.
For forty odd years I have looked at those buildings which still stand and have wondered.....I have shared so many secrets witheld in these walls..how many more will they uncover before I am through?
Contact me if you can share any of those memories..no matter how insignificant you think it might be, they will help in putting my final jigsaw of RAF High Ercall together.
I look forward to hearing from you, Regards
Anne Owen, High Ercall, Shropshire
