In 1940, just after coming back home from school, I had to go from my house to the shelter (which was situated in the road) I looked up into the sky as it was a lovely day and saw around a dozen German bombers going overhead. Later on that day, I found out that they had been bombing the Vauxhall car factory just 3 miles away. My father was inside the factory delivering goods to the factory. Several people were killed in the bombing but my father was uninjured after diving under his truck.
