My Grandfather in the Far East

My Grandfather Thomas Joseph West was serving during the second world war.
Unfortunately, he passed away when I was 6 years old, so I was unable to hear all of his war stories first hand.
My Grandfather was a very keen photographer, and I have in my posession a number of photographs taken while he was serving, and there is a bit of information with each picture, so I will describe the events happening in each photograph, from the notes my grandfather jotted down on them...
