My uncle Raymond enlisted into the Royal Scots Fusiliers in 1938 stating that he was 19 years old when in fact he was only 16 years old. He was sent to France with the British Expeditionary Force in May 1940 but did not return untill a month after the main evacuation from Dunkirk at the end of June . My farther told me he was part of an sabotage group known as Colonel Perrymans rifles ? ( Has anyone any information about this group of men ).
He was then transfered to the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders and posted to the 2nd batalion and shipped out to Singapore in August 1940. Where he fought the Japs untill taken prisoner of war in Febuary 1942.Taken by hell ship to Borneo mistreated and died on a death march from Sandakan P O W camp in January 1945 . I have met one or two of his fellow comrades who told me what a fine lad he was, so i regret to say that i hate the Japanese for depriveing me from known some one who along with my mum and dad is always in my thoughts.

Dear Magpiebear,
Your story is very sad! I hope you will find out more about your uncle. He sounds to have been a great man. I am sure there are many Researches on this website willing to help you trace your uncle.(I hope you'll get some results)
His name should not be forgotten. He will always be part of your family history - and part of the WW2 History now.
Thank you for sharing with us.
Kind regards,
Audrey Lewis

Thank you Audrey for your response. I have found out a lot about my Uncle through the far eastern pow association here in Scotland.
I was fotunate enough to be able to speak to one of his comrades, a Mr Duncan Ferguson who was with him in Tyreserl camp Singapore. Sadly Duncan has now passed away, he was a lovely man who spent a lot of his time organising the far eastern pow association dances and visits to Burma, where he was held as a pow working at hell fire pass.
I attended the 50th anniversary of VE and VJ day sunset ceremony at Edinburgh castle on the 20th of August 1995 and was given permission to wear my uncles medals courtesy of the British Legion. I also met a Walter Sheperd who was in Sandakan pow camp when my uncle first arrived there, the japs were wanting volunteers to go with this group of men and Walter because he was a pal of Raymond wanted to go with him, his sergeant told him he would be better staying where he was because at least he was existing and where the japs were taken these men it could be a lot worse. Needless to say he was right Walter came home my uncle did not. Kind regards Malcolm

Has anyone information about this group of men who apparently were among the last to be evacuated from Dunkirk at the end of June 1940 .
I believe they were formed into a sabotage group to hinder the german advance through France.
