This story was submitted to the Peoples War site by Paul Furling.
I remember my mother telling me about a family that lived in Birkenhead on Conway Street.
They were a family of eight.
Their family dog a first cross terrier named Jack, who would jump around and bark about 40 minuets before the air raid sirens would sound. The family would use this as a guide to tell them when to go and get the good seats in the air raid shelter. The dog was also used in dogfights as a way of bringing in money to feed the family with.
