My name is Billy Moore and during the war when I was in my teens, I entertained with my parents and sister (stage names Bert Gordon, Cissie Cave, Patsy Cave-Moore),, as a package show called The Family Four for a scheme called Holidays at Home.
My father was a comedian and an impressionist,my mother was a singer and dancer as was my sister, and I played the piano accordian and sang popular wartime songs in and around the London area.
We also entertained around village halls in Essex and Kent and on Bandstands and in parks around the London area, to keep the morale up of the public.
Of course we had to get special permission to go into restricted areas on various occasions, as is shown on the picture as a specimen of a letter we would receive.
Later in the war, my sister joined ENSA (Entertainments National Services Association), entertaining the Armed Services and in munition factories, and I eventually was called up as a Bevin Boy to work in the coalmines in a village called Askern , near Doncaster where I continued entertaining at weekends around the Working Men's Clubs around that area., until I was demobbed in the middle of 1945., and then continued entertaining in and around the London area.
