Dad worked in the pit but got called up. He was stationed at Dover with the army but got called back.
The family next door had a massive shelter and everyone used to pile in there, we had some laughs.
Mum used to have food parcels come. We couldn鈥檛 have bananas unless you had a green book, my sister was born in 1944 so could get them. We never went hungry.
I was born in Summer Lane, Royston and still live in the village.
When I was at the church School we used to have practise sessions with our gas masks on.
