I was a little girl five years old when the second world war broke out.
I lived in Heaton, Newcastle, in an old terrace house with my family and we were near the main railway line which probably made us a target area.
Tragedy struck early in the war when a land mine fell at the end of our street, demolishing a block of flats, killing twelve people, one of then was my dad.
My father was 39 years old and on duty as an air raid warden and waggon driver.
My mother was left a widow with three young children to bring up, (myself, my twin brother and my older sister). Mam's life was hard, doing all the jobs a man usually did around the house besides a lot of extra work outside, to bring in extra cash.
I was deprived of a loving dad and still do not forgive Hitler and his followers all these years later for the hurt we suffered.
