christmas 1943 just befor my eighth birthday we were invited to a xmas party by all saints church segley, which church we did not attened but it was the first church in sedgley, we went to the congrational church, sedgley at that time did not have so many people living there, myself marina, mary, and two others l cannot remember who they were went, the only thing that l can recall is that each of us were given three chocolate sweets in shiney paper and that as we went home we each ate ours but it took us quite a while as we wanted them to last as long as possible it started to snow but we still did not hurry as the chocolates were so welcome it that nothing was going to spoil the sheer enjoyment of them, also we had a xmas party at the queen victoria school this l remeber very well, we were told to bring a spoon with us ,in the afternoon, when we arrived the classroom looked lovely, streamers that we had made had been hung up and on each desk there was a doily with a small wax paper dish filled with jelly and hudreds and thousends scattered over it,there was a bread roll with fishpaste and a small rock cake. also the teacher whoes name l cannot remember had wrapped up two pear drops ho' the bliss to see such lovely things l think the parrents had to contrebute but l am not sure but the memory of that party remains with me still, my friend marina and l also went to a biethday party to a posh girls home l know she was posh because of were she lived but that is not why l remember it it was because we had a banana when we left the sight of that banana was a lovely surprise. so you see that the big thing on my mind during the way was all the things you can now get in abundence but not then, but l must say just a few words more my mother and other mothers liked to go and have a half pint of beer at the local and l always went with her and l always had smiths crisps and a vinto.
