Janet Batson's recurrent nightmare.
I was born in Kirby Muxloe, Leicester, in July 1943 and therefore have no 'memories' of WW2. But until the age of 7 years I experienced a recurrent nightmare. In my dream I was being chased down a long, dark, damp passage, at the end was a solid brick wall. When I reached the end I turned to face my pursuer, a German soldier, who then shot me at point blank range. I always felt the impact of the bullet in my stomach, then awoke screaming. The nightmare was repeated on countless occasions over several years, but I am unable to remember when the nightmare first began.
Kirby Muxloe was bombed in November 1940, 3 years before I was born. My uncle, Clarence [Dick] Russell was awarded an O.B.E. for rescuing an injured man from the ruins of his house. The bombs caused considerable damage to the centre of the village, including the destruction of the Free Church building.
My family would therefore be talking about their experiences within my hearing, although I have no memories of those discussions. Some of those discussions must have entered my subconscientious mind.
