my father was an airframe fitter assigned to 617 dambusters squadron at scampton lincolnshire,when radar was developed he and a mate were assigned to fit the radar to the lancaster bombers,while
working in the cockpit under the instrument panel installing the wiring for the radar, felt the aircraft lurch and thought someone had come aboard the aircraft in a short time looked out and saw everyone close to the lancaster running away, it turned out while wiring up the radar something must have contaced the bomb release circuit and a 2000lb bomb had dropped from the aircraft on to the tarmac
