I was living in grenfell road liverpool, and attended ballantyne road school in the early part of the war,my mate and I used to go through larkhill park to reach the school, and one day as we came out of the park the school was cordoned off,a land mine had landed in ballantyne road in the night and destroyed most of the houses in the road, while another one had not exploded, but was hanging of the roof of the girls department by its parachute
that was the end of any schooling as we knew it for a while,we were broken up into groups of about 6 and taught in peoples houses,I went to a house in mallerson road, opposite the old co-op,
this seemed to me to go on forever as it seemed a long time before we were allowed back into the school
