A Lucky Escape!
By
Florence Jolly

Mr and Mrs Mackie had been to North Shields and missed the last bus home so they decided to walk, they had to walk up a long road with a `Wood yard` on one side and allotments on the other. The Germans ‘decided to bomb the wood yard that night — Mr and Mrs Mackie had to keep throwing themselves to the ground while bombing went on around them. They managed to get home ok but their outer cloths had been ripped and torn with the blast, I thought they had been hit while we sheltered and I started to cry when they said they where alright. We were all very lucky that night as we sheltered in my Aunties shelter as our shelter was bombed that night.
