During the war I lived in 23 Housten Street Ballyhackamore with my mother, and two brothers. I had to take my gas mask everywhere with me and they were very annoying. One night when I was seven their was an air raid and we all had to get under the stairs to protect ourselves and when we came out a lot of hours later a building three house down had been bombed and was flattened so we where lucky to be alive as it was so close. As my mother cleaned the building that was bombed it left her job-less and my brothers had to look for work while my mother and I stayed at home to clean. I had a pet dog that had gone for a walk and was killed in an explosion. My neighbour two doors up house was bombed and I had to take them in.
