I was seven or eight years old. I attended St Johns Primary School in Redhill. I probably would have just moved into what was called the Big Girls school.

German planes often flew overhead. We called this an Air Raid. They were very common. you never knew when they were going to happen. If any of us were late for school, we had a great excuse. "Please Miss, I did not hear the all clear".
