This evacuation occurred towards the end of the war as my mother had been sent to various places and always brought my brother and myself home to \london again as soon as she could.
We were taken to a London Railway Station by my dad who worked in Windsor making glasses for soldiers as he was a dispensing optician. He saw us on to a train and did not know where we were going - in some correspondence I have recently found , therewas a telegram from my mum letting him know we had arrived in Lancashire.
On arrival, after all day on the train, we were taken to a village hall and were expected to sleep onthe floor until we found somewhere in the village. My mum soon went out and knocked on the door of acottage aasked an old lady if we could stay. She rather grudgingly agreed that we could. There was very little room and a lavvie at the end of the garden! We settled in as best we could and my brother went to Lee Grammar School as he was about 13 yrs. and I went to the local primary school as I was about 6 yrs. My mum did not like livingin the cottage but she tried to make the best of it and the prople in Lancs. were very kind. We did not stay more than about 6 months and she took us back to Fulham where we had a further dose of bombing andliving inthe anderson shelter.
