This story was submitted to the People's War site by a volunteer fron CVS on behalf of Patricia Mansfield.
November 17th 1944 a buzz bomb landed on the church in Londesborough Road, Stoke Newington, causing the back half of our house, in Barbauld Road, to fall down and bring on my mother's labour. Only a few hours later she was delivered of a 3lb baby girl - that's me, over two months premature. Wrapped in cotton wool in a size 8 shoe to maintain my temperature I rapidly gained weight and flourished - thanks to the dedicated care of Hackney Hospital staff, and doting parents. A Hackney miracle in those days.
