I WAS EVACUATED WITH THOUSANDS OF OTHER CHILDREN FROM LONDON SOON AFTER THE WAR HAD STARTED IN 1939, I WAS 13 YEARS OLD I CAME BACK TO LONDON EARLY 1940 TO START WORK I WAS 14. I HAD VARIOUS JOBS, BUT IN AUGUST 1943 I JOINED THE ROYAL NAVY I COMPLETED THE BASIC TRAINING AT HMS. COLLINGWOOD AFTER WHICH I WAS DRAFTED TO DURBAN SOUTH AFRICA, WE LANDED XMAS EVE 1943 AND WAS STATIONED AT HMS ASIGIA TRANSIT CAMP.

SHORTLY AFTERWARDS I JOINED HMS QUEEN ELIZABETH (BATTLESHIP) AND SERVED WITH FAR EASTERN FLEET AND PACIFIC FLEET WE STAYED OUT THERE UNTIL THE JAPANESE SURRENDER THEN WE RETURNED HOME IN EARLY 1946 WHERE WE WERE IN DUE COURSE DEMOBED
