During the war Ray lived in South Ealing and was 15 years old when the war ended.
There were bofor guns at the end of his road.
During air raids the family went into their Andersons Shelter. One morning the family dog would not get out of its kennel because a spent shell, from an anti-aircraft gun, had fallen from the sky and hit the kennel. The dog was frightened but, amazingly, survived.
During the VE Day celebrations a bonfire was lit at the end of his road and the ensuing blaze did more damage than all of Hitler鈥檚 bombs.
