Me and my sister Diane, when there was an air raid, would have to take shelter under a metal table in our Great Aunt’s house where they lived.
One evening the sirens went off and we were very scared — we could also see the searchlights. That night mum had gone to the Colston Hall in Bristol, which was bombed that very same night. She was told not to leave the hall but because of the bombing raids taking place ran out of the hall through all the bombing taking place just to make sure we were safe and well.
When she saw that we were ok she fainted! Two very kind American soldiers had helped her get home.
We slept in night gowns mum made us from flour sacks.
