My dad was in the RAF football team, he travelled around India, though when he reached Calcutta he developed dysentery. The Commander at the time told him 鈥淚 have good news, and bad news. The good news is that the war is over, the bad is that yours isn鈥檛 and we only have three bottles of beer in the fridge.鈥 Times were traumatic for him, he got on a ship unaware of where they were going or how long for.
The last day they were all on field and Gracie Field was singing, everyone had tears in their eyes. Mum didn鈥檛 recognise dad on return, he鈥檇 lost so much weight. He was pale and had red hair, which had meant that the climate for him in India was difficult.
