this story was submitted to the People,s war site by Wendy Young on behalf of Mrs Lena Hickman and has been added to the site with her permission she fully understands the site,s terms and conditions Walking around in the blackout with a torch, as there were no street lights.
They took the signs down and after the war people had no idea where they were.
It was very difficult getting around on trains. I remember one journey I made from Lincoln to Torquay. I didn't want to go via London and it took me a day and a half to get there.
