John's uncle Harry was in the Chindits, and this is one of the poems written by the Chindits during their time in the Far East.

O the Sergeant came from Peckham,
The Corporal came from Perth,
We're here upon the Chinhills,
At the top of all the earth.
Now there's coloured mountains round us,
And there's coloured jungles too,
If this was just a holiday twould be a lovely view.
Now the Jap's are in the jungle,
You can't admire the scene,
For your'e dressed in moss and fungus,
And your'e face is painted green.
You hang out Monday's washing,
In the roaring monsoon rain,
The leaches and mosquitos play cut and come again.
Now the Jap's are in the jungle,
We'll smash his ugly grin,
So don't you worry Mum and Dad,
Us Chindits we will win.

This poem was told to volunteer Kathy Brady and written with John's permission.
