At the time 1 was six years old, living at Cromer on the Norfolk coast. YE Day was celebrated by both adults and children dancing on the square where the buses turned round on Cadogan Road. Shortly after YE Day the troops that were billeted in the town gave a parry for all the children in the Links Hotel Pavilion (burned down after the war).
The manager of the Regal Cinema gave a free film show to the children of the area, there seemed to be hundreds of us there, if you were small it was two to a seat or sit on an older child's knee, when all the seats were full the aisles were then used until every available space was occupied by children. As every child went through the entrance doors they were given a small bar of chocolate or some sweets in a bag. Where or how he managed to obtain all the rationed chocolate and sweets from in those difficult times I do not know, but obviously his heart was in the right place.
YJ Day was celebrated in exactly the same way, with the dancing, party and free film show.
